Premier League! Raheem Sterling Scores As Manchester City Beat Newcastle To Go 15 Points Clear At The Top

Pep Guardiola’s side are now one victory short of tying the record for Europe’s top five leagues their manager set at Bayern Munich and have moved a massive 15 points clear of their nearest rivals, Manchester United.Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side, with five changes from thewin over West Ham, never seemed to show an inclination to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Guardiola.Instead they sat back in the hope they could somehow keep City’s brilliant attack, in which Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva replaced David Silva and Leroy Sane, at bay.It was to be in vain as Sterling struck just after the half hour mark, volleying past Rob Elliott at close range after abrilliant lofted pass by Kevin De Bruyne.
The opener briefly brought Newcastle out of their shells and Rolando Aarons was denied an immediate riposte only when Nicolas Otamendi cleared his chip off the line. But the pressure was not to ease for the Magpies, who spent most of the second period parrying back wave afterwave of attacks from City. Sterling came close with a curling effort whilst at the other end substitute Dwight Gayle led a rare counter with 15 minutes left but ended upwith only a booking when referee Andre Marriner adjudged he had dived in search of a penalty.

The St James’ Park crowd roared their side on in search of an equaliser in the closing minutes, with Gayle flashinga header just wide, but even their support could not end City’s remorseless winning run.
